This uses the Schofield equation to calculate Basal Metabolic Rate, with an activity factor of 1.3 applied for a sedentary individual.WHO. 2001. Human energy requirements: Report of a Joint FAO/WHO/UNU Expert Consultation. Rome.

BMI is calculated using the standard weight (lb) / height (in)² × 703 formula. BMI cutoffs of 18.5, 25, and 30 follow standard WHO/CDC classification.
27.5 is included as a secondary reference point. Several large cohort studies have found the BMI associated with lowest all-cause mortality to fall in or near the overweight range rather than at the "normal" cutoff of 25 — this pattern is most consistently seen in adults 65 and older. This is not a standard clinical cutoff, and the association does not hold in all populations or study designs; reverse causation (illness-related weight loss lowering BMI in sicker individuals) remains a live methodological debate.Winter JE, et al.
