Anti-Viral Indications
Ill >48 hours and hospitalized or seriously ill
Ill <48 hours and child under age 2 years old (some guidelines use under age 5 years)
Ill <48 hours and elderly (over 65 years old)
Ill <48 hours and chronic medical conditions present(e.g. COPD, Asthma)
Ill <48 hours and immunosuppressed
Ill <48 hours and obese with BMI>40
Ill <48 hours and pregnant (despite Pregnancy category C due to higher risk of Influenza related morbidity
Zanamivir (Relenza)
Oseltamivir (Tamiflu)
Choose Antiviral if Indicated
Discussed increased fluids, antipyretics, and rest. Typical natural history of disease discussed. Follow up if symptoms persist or worsen outside of discussed boundaries.
